Adhira Rao is the younger daughter of Parvathi and Venkat Rao of Holeyuva Betta, a beautiful hill station in Karnataka, popularly known as Shining Hill. 13 years ago, she lost her older sister, Aradhana, in an inexplicable incident.
While the simple-minded townsfolk of Holeyuva Betta (Shining Hill) believed that the night demon killed the teenager, Adhira had her suspicions of foul play.
She always felt like the black sheep of her family and a misfit in her hometown. This, along with the ignorant townsfolk and her sister's tragic death slowly drove her away from Shining Hill. Adhira is now 27 years old residing in the city of Bengaluru, working as a journalist / blogger for a popular news website. It's been almost a decade since she's been home.
As a child, Adhira took violin lessons and loved to read. She was an introvert and preferred the company of books to people. Her beloved ajja (grandfather) had introduced her to the world of books and imbibed the habit of reading in her. She was very close with her sister, which is why she was devastated by the tragedy. Adhira lost her childhood the day she lost Aradhana. And her life was never the same again.
Her parents sent her off to a boarding school so that she could be away from the constant reminder of her sister's death and deal with the loss. But she never got over the tragedy. It still haunts her.

Now Adhira must go back to Shining Hill for a project and try to reconnect with her dysfunctional family. As she struggles to cope with it all, another horrifying catastrophe stuns the quaint little town of Holeyuva Betta. And the gritty Adhira finds herself in the eye of the storm.
